Some people don’t care about their eyes or some of the other risks associated with using poor eye and face protection. Some people think that paying a little less for a welding helmet is a saving they can afford.

But most professionals know that when it comes to PPE spending a little more to get better protection is a wise investment.

Auto darkening welding filters are made up of layers of special UV and IR filters matched with LCD panels to provide full time UV and IR protection and adjustable shade protection. The quality of each of these components and the way they are put together is critical to the final quality and level of protection you can get. Some helmets are made using cheaper filters and lower cost LCD’s but these may not provide the protection you need. Uncertified products can even be dangerous.

• Not every manufacturer has the technology to produce a better welding filter or helmet.
• Cheap UV and IR filters can break down reducing their effectiveness.
